Hard Tonneau Covers peak your truck bed with security and style. Typically equipped with heavy-duty locks and durable shocks, Hard Tonneau Covers boast the best of materials. Most Hard Tonneau Covers can be paint-matched to your truck. Choosing to buy and fit a Hard Tonneau Cover is, without a doubt, the correct decision. Tonneau covers made from other materials, no matter how well they are made, just aren't as weather-proof, secure, durable and as good looking as Hard Tonneau Covers.

Different manufacturers offer different materials. Before buying a Hard Tonneau Cover, weigh the pros and cons of the different versions available. Here's an overview of the various types of Hard Tonneaus and their main points of interest:

Fiberglass Hard Tonneau Covers
By far the most popular choice of Hard Tonneau Cover, you just can't get away from the sleek, stylish, glossy finish of fiberglass Hard Tonneau Covers. Fiberglass Hard Tonneaus are the choice for those who plan to paint match the tonneau to their truck. Fiberglass can be dented and cracked, and it can be next to impossible to repair and getting it back to looking like new. They are also heavy - some weighing well over 100lbs - which means self-installation can be problematic. Once fitted, however, they are easy to open and close thanks to pressurized gas struts. They are also secure with the better models coming with locking systems.

Aluminum Hard Tonneau Covers
Aluminum is a good choice for work-trucks. They don't look as stylish as fiberglass, but they can be powder coated and unlike fiberglass, dents can be knocked back into shape. Most aluminum Hard Tonneau Covers come in three or four sections that fold back for access. The better brands of Aluminum Hard Tonneau Covers come with secure locking systems.

Retractable Hard Tonneau Covers
Usually made from aluminum, these Hard Tonneau Covers consist of small lateral sections that can be drawn by motor into a container for access to the bed - very much like a garage door. They're great for security and durability, and can be color matched to the truck. The biggest disadvantage of a Retractable Hard Tonneau Cover is that the motor resides in the truck bed so some storage capacity is lost; they're also the most expensive but make up for the price with their versatility.

Polymer Hard Tonneau Covers
Relatively new on the market, Polymer Hard Tonneau Covers are durable, very secure and weather-tight. The best thing about this type of Hard Tonneau Cover is that they're much lighter than fiberglass (around 60lbs) but much stronger, which also means that installation is a one-man operation. These Hard Tonneau Covers are also cheaper than fiberglass. The only downside is that these polymer Hard Tonneau Covers don't paint match as well as fiberglass.
